John Gerrish — Founder of John Gerrish & Associates
John Gerrish is the founder of John Gerrish & Associates (JGA) and a respected leader in the field of hazardous materials transportation compliance and training. With a career spanning over four decades, John built a reputation for delivering high-quality regulatory training rooted in deep technical knowledge, real-world experience, and a genuine commitment to safety.
From the very beginning, John’s success was supported by his wife, Barbara Gerrish. Barbara planned an essential role in managing the operations side of the business. Barbara’s dedication to keeping the company running smoothly behind the scenes allowed John to focus on developing and delivering outstanding training programs. Together, they built a strong foundation that helped JGA thrive for many years.
John and Barbara have recently retired together, marking the end of an era while leaving a lasting legacy.
After launching JGA, John spent years traveling the globe — from coast to coast in the U.S. to Belgium and The Netherlands — sharing his expertise and training thousands of professionals in the proper handling and transportation of dangerous goods. His approach has always been personal, passionate, and rooted in the belief that “Danger is Definite, Protection is Elected.”
John’s legacy lives on through the dedicated team at JGA, including longtime instructors Jerry Green and Mike Williams, Training Coordinator Marsha Oliva, and now through the company’s continued work under the ownership of Tom and Jackie Ferguson, owners of Currie Associates. JGA remains committed to the same mission John and Barbara establish: delivering top-tier compliance training that keeps people, property, and the environment safe.
Though John and Barbara have officially retired, their influence continues to guide the work we do every day.
“This fantastic journey would not have been possible without our students, colleagues, and partners — who have shared in the learning, the laughs, and the dedication to safety.”
Thank you, John and Barbara, for your leadership, your dedication, and the legacy you’ve created.
