Provides the training required as outlined under U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR), Part 172, Subpart H.
This course provides familiarity with the requirements of U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR) and enables the employee/student to recognize and identify hazardous materials consistent with the hazard communication standards. It is a systematic program that ensures a hazmat employee has familiarity with most of the general transport provisions of the Hazardous Materials Regulations, is able to recognize most hazardous materials and has knowledge of emergency response information, self-protection measures and accident prevention methods and procedures.
NOTE: This course does not cover the specific requirements of the relations applicable to functions performed by an employee/student.

Learning Objective
At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Recognize most hazardous materials in transportation.
- Recognize who regulates what in terms of hazardous materials in transportation in the United States.
- Recognize and identify most UN specification packagings.
- Recognize most proper marks and labels for a shipment.
- Recognize security risks related to the transportation of hazardous materials in commerce.
- Understand the basic precautions to be taken when handling hazardous materials.
Final Objective
Emphasis is placed on each student being able to recognize hazardous materials in transportation.
