Provides the recurrent training required as outlined under U.S. Department of Transportation Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (49CFR), Part 172, Subpart H and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Dangerous Goods Code, Section 1.3.

This course reviews the skills needed to prepare, offer and accept ground and/or ocean shipments of hazardous materials / dangerous goods. It is a systematic program that ensures a hazmat/DG employee has familiarity with the changes that have occurred over the past year(s) in the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG Code).

NOTE 1: Instruction will focus on non-bulk packages offered into transportation by motor vehicle and vessel.

NOTE 2: This course does not cover the regulatory requirements for offering radioactive (Class 7) or infectious shipments into transportation

 

Prerequisites

  1. Successful completion of a Hazardous Materials / Dangerous Goods in Ground and Ocean Transportation class within the past three (3) years.

 

Learning Objective

At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Recognize and identify hazardous materials / dangerous goods in transportation.
  2. Identify changes in the HMR and the IMDG Code.
  3. Understand how the changes relate to their organization, their product(s) and to them as a hazmat/DG employee.
  4. Prepare, offer and accept most domestic and international ground and/or ocean shipments of hazardous materials / dangerous goods.
  5. Understand the specific requirements of the regulations as it relates to their job function.
  6. Understand the precautions to be taken when handling hazardous materials / dangerous goods.
  7. Recognize security risks related to the transportation of hazardous materials / dangerous goods in commerce.

 

Final Objective

Emphasis is placed on each student’s responsibility when offering hazardous materials / dangerous goods into ground and/or ocean transportation.
